People with strengthened climate resilience and reduced vulnerabilities
In fiscal years 2015-20
The humanitarian situation in Sudan is deteriorating at an alarming rate, due to the complex emergency situation of conflict, political instability, market inflation, irregularity of rains and severe drought caused by climate change. CARE Sudan is integrating climate change adaptation and resilience building interventions in its programs to reduce the impact on the lives of the poorest and vulnerable individuals and communities.
The targeted population by the country office include internally displaced people (IDPs), South Sudan Refugees and affected host communities. Some of the related actions include regular and continuous community and household vulnerability analysis, environmental impact assessment, environment sensitive programing, and promoting inclusive governance, particularly for women and youth who can play lead role in environmental sustainability, natural resource management and resilience building. Adaptive strategies include livelihoods diversification, green charcoal or energy scale up, peaceful mutual co-existence among conflicting communities, and supporting women in leadership and decision making roles. CARE Sudan believes that at risk populations should have the conditions whereby they can thrive in spite of climatic change and other human security risks.
