The overall aim of the Ecosystem-based Adaptation Learning Journey is to equip people with better knowledge and expertise on the use of ecosystem services in climate change adaptation projects, an approach that is called Ecosystem-based Adaptation. This Learning Journey has the aim of helping participants develop the skills required to put adaptation into practice at local level integrating gender equality as a cross-cutting issue.

The Ecosystem-based Adaptation Learning Journey is a 16-week online training course. It has been developed and will be facilitated by CARE Climate, Resilience, Adaptation and Environmental Specialists. Each module runs over a two-week period, with some exceptions due to overlapping holidays, where the modules are slightly longer.

Currently, this learning journey is not yet open for enrollees.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will have developed the skills required to put Ecosystem-based Adaptation into practice at local level integrating gender equality as a cross-cutting issue. The course will help participants:

  • Obtain knowledge and expertise on the use of ecosystem services in climate change adaptation projects
  • Develop the skills required to put EbA into practice at local level, integrating gender equality as a cross-cutting issue
  • Understand monitoring and evaluation systems, as well as other best practices to use in EbA projects

This Learning Journey has been developed based on Malcolm Knowles’ adult learning theories:

  • Adults learn better from experience (even if they make mistakes).
  • Adults favor a pragmatic approach and must be able to apply learning to solve a specific problem.
  • Adults are most interested in learning things that have immediate relevance.
  • Adults need to be involved in the planning and evaluation of their instruction.
