Sustainable Livelihoods

CARE’s renewable energy approach establishes how we work to improve access to clean and affordable energy. CARE uses the following three key principles:

1. Empowering women and shifting social norms
2. Reaching scale through our Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) Work
3. Working along the whole value chain

CARE currently works to improve access and use of renewable energy in more than 15 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. CARE’s work ranges from programs that facilitate the uptake and access to solar systems and biogas to the scaling of improved cook stoves and uptake of green charcoal as an alternative for traditional charcoal and firewood.
