Increasing Resilience

Theoretical guidance document for CARE International

CARE aims to strengthen poor people’s capacities to deal with shocks and stresses, manage risks, and transform their lives in response to new hazards and opportunities. CARE seeks to address the underlying causes of vulnerability of different groups of people, and improve the social, economic and ecological systems and structures that support them.

Increasing resilience is central to how CARE works.

This document provides CARE and partner staff with some theoretical direction for integrating resilience into their work. The three main areas of discussion are:

  1. The importance of increasing resilience for CARE
  2. Key elements for increasing resilience for CARE
  3. The integration of increasing resilience across the 2020 Program Strategy
