Despite it forming the key scientific input to this year’s UN Climate Change Conference, COP24, a handful of countries blocked inclusion of the report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), leaving it to ministers to ensure the report is put back into the heart of conference outcomes. CARE has organized an action calling on ministers and country delegates to make commitments to increased climate ambition and to promote sustainable development options to tackle climate change and gender inequalities. The action will provide incoming delegates with “wish buttons” which will be arranged to form a large 1.5° symbol at the floor. As they place their buttons on the ground, delegates will state why society must strive to prevent a rise above the 1.5°C limit, and what actions they wish to be implemented.
